Most levels feature three of these, some of which you can attempt during a single playthrough – although listening to the conversations of in-game NPCs will often unlock new ones, leading you to discover new areas and methods of murder. These are entirely optional but serve somewhat as a tutorial for the level allowing you to come back armed with some knowledge of how the level and it’s inhabitants behave. You are guided through some of the games’ more elaborate sequences of murder using the game “Mission Story” menu, which provides you with waypoints. Ideally, you want to do this without anybody even knowing you are there, but unless you are chasing leaderboards and high scores, the game is very forgiving about you killing anybody that stands if your way, providing you dispose of their body! Get within touching distance of them and outright pop a bullet between their eyes, strangle, drown and electrocute them, or maybe set in motion a series of events that lures them out to be sniped from the safety of distance. The structure for each level is fundamentally the same as before, assassinate your target however you deem fit. I feel that this makes for a slightly more accessible game than the others and hopefully serves as a great entrée for those who found the previous games almost overwhelming. Whilst on paper this might sound concerning after what happened with Hitman Absolution, IO have balanced this by creating levels that unlock slightly after that initial playthrough, allowing you to start after a cinematic sequence, or with some of the paths/shortcuts, you have already unlocked now persistently open (Dark Souls style), allowing for a less linear approach to the level after the initial run. Hitman 3 is clearly best enjoyed played sequentially following the story, which is more closely woven into each mission right down to an exceptionally linear finale. It’s more Hitman, but at the same time less of Hitman.Hitman 3 takes a surprise turn by mixing things up a little compared to the previous games, which could easily be enjoyed a la carte. There are standout moments, but Hitman 3 just doesn’t have the same charm it did in the last two games, and the limitations only contribute to this. The whole point of the Hitman games is replaying missions over and over again, but after completing one a couple of times, I felt like I experienced everything it had to offer, which isn’t something I had a problem with in the past. The decrease of Mission Stories down to between zero and three is a huge blow as they used to offer some of most entertaining ways in getting close to your target. The focus on the rushed story has taken a toll on at least two missions, while the CG cutscenes are awkwardly done. Unfortunately, there are hang ups that drag the experience down. The environments are also a highlight as they’re not only a visual treat, but contain an incredible amount of detail that encourage creativity from the player. There are grand moments that will leave you enthralled, from the Knives Out-esque murder mystery to skydiving to one of the tallest buildings in Dubai. HITMAN 2 players will have the option to carry over their hard-earned unlocks and progression into HITMAN 3. You can unlock an item in Dubai and take it with you to Paris, for example. Playing the entire trilogy from beginning to end, from within HITMAN 3, also means that the progression systems in HITMAN 3 work across all locations. Players of previous HITMAN games will be pleased to know that it will be possible to 'import' locations that they own from the previous two HITMAN games into HITMAN 3, essentially putting all 20+ locations from the entire trilogy in one place. A Platform of Assassination The World of Assassination trilogy is fully realised with HITMAN 3 as the ultimate place to play all three games. Players will have unrivalled freedom to complete their objectives and the game world will react to everything they do. Top of the World Every mission location in HITMAN 3 is meticulously detailed and packed full of creative opportunities. When the dust settles, 47 and the world he inhabits will never be the same again. Their ultimate mission is to eliminate the partners of Providence, but they are forced to adapt as their hunt intensifies. Supported by his Agency handler, Diana Burnwood, 47 joins forces with his long-lost friend Lucas Grey. Agent 47 returns as a ruthless professional for the most important contracts of his entire career. Death Awaits HITMAN 3 is the dramatic conclusion to the World of Assassination trilogy and takes players around the world on a globetrotting adventure to sprawling sandbox locations.
